Tribute to Miss Dottie

**Please wait for slideshow to load - This may take several minutes**

Miss Dottie

Miss Dottie lived with Rhonda-MN in Minnesota, USA

Miss Dottie came into our lives in the spring of 2006. She was sent to us from down South. I was new to guineas but knew enough to know she was indeed different. I remember posting her picture on the message board, and everyone was just taken with her. Carl was the first one to suggest we name her Dottie if she turned out to be a female and Spot for a male. Well, as Miss Dottie got bigger I noticed she had an attitude, and it was a great thing! It made her stand out from the rest.

When she buck-wheated for the first time, I was so excited! Mary/IN was the first to ask for eggs. I was really excited when I saw that Miss Dottie decided to express her love with one of our white males. I knew that there would be a good chance of getting more Miss Dotties. She would walk around the yard like a queen. When she buck-wheated, they all came running, especially the males. No matter where she was and she would let out a holler, we knew it was her. Don't ask me how, but I just knew that was Miss Dottie. She would also be the first one to walk up to our 70+ yellow lab, Emma, stand just far enough from where she was tied up so Emma could not get her, and let her have it! This happened every single morning!

All my animals are special to me, but Miss Dottie was more than that. She died in the summer of 2007. Every time we lose a guinea to the road, I tell my boys, ages 4 & 5, that my Uncle Ronnie (he died in a 4-wheeler accident) loved guineas; and he must have wanted some up in heaven. But when he took Miss Dottie, my boys were really upset.

I know to some reading this you're probably thinking, "She was just a bird." But she was a special bird; she was a bird with an attitude.... I miss my Miss Dottie and see a lot of her attitude coming out in her twins, Herbie and Kirby. May she be in heaven expressing her "free love" attitude. Even though her life was way too short, I know she touched a lot of people. I have made a lot of friends on the message board because of her, and for that I am extremely thankful!
